San Francisco Art Museums

San Francisco has a number of great art museums. The most popular and recognized are the San Francisco de Young Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.

The de Young Museum is also sometimes called the fine arts museum San Francisco. It is located in Golden Gate Park right next to the Academy of Sciences.

The museum has been around for a long time, but the building it is in is fairly new. The new museum location opened just over a year ago and is more popular than ever.

Another popular San Francisco art museum is the Museum of Modern Art, also known as MOMA. It is located in the South of Market Area in downtown San Francisco.

The MOMA was founded in 1935. This is one of my favorites because they have a number of great permanent and visiting exhibits. They also have fun events.

History Museums in San Francisco

There are also a number of history museums in San Francisco. One of the most popular San Francisco museums for history is the Cable Car Museum.

The San Francisco Cable Car Museum is a historical overview of the infamous San Francisco cable cars. It walks you through the complete history of the San Francisco cable cars, why they were put in place and how they were slowly removed.

Not only does it walk you through the history, you'll learn more about how the cable cars work. This is worth the trip if you are interested in learning more about the cable cars.

Other Museums San Francisco

There are also a number of other types of museums. I decided to add them to a list called other museums. The other museums San Francisco include the Academy of Sciences, the Wax Museum in Fishermans Wharf, the Exploratorium in the Marina District and the Contemporary Jewish Museum in SOMA.

One of the most popular museums in San Francisco is the Academy of Sciences. This museum is located in Golden Gate Park.

This is one of my favorite San Francisco museums because it has a number of amazing exhibits. They just moved into a new building and they did a great job of reworking the displays to make them even more interesting.

The roof is also alive. Yes, alive. It's made of a millions of differnet plants and you can head up to the roof deck to see if for yourself.

All of these museums are worth a visit if you have a few additional days to spend in San Francisco. The Exploratorium is also a great museum for kids.
