Learn more about each San Francisco Ferry including the Tiburon ferry, Sausalito ferry, the ferry to Alcatraz and more. There are a few different companies that run the ferries in San Francisco including the Blue and Gold Ferry Fleet Company and the Golden Gate Ferry.
The ferries pick up either from the Ferry Building in San Francisco or Pier 41 in Fishermans Wharf. Each of the different ferries is outlined below with details on where this ferry picks up passengers.
The Sausalito Ferry is the most well-known and popular San Francisco Ferry. It runs 5 to 6 times a day from each of the two different San Francisco ferry terminals to and from San Francisco to Sausalito.
There are two companies that offer service from San Francisco to Sausalito. One is the Blue and Gold Ferry Fleet Company and the other is Golden Gate Ferry.
Blue and Gold picks up passengers at Pier 41 in Fishermans Wharf near the popular Pier 39 San Francisco. Golden Gate Ferry runs a Sausalito Ferry in and out of the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

The Angel Island Ferry services just Angel Island San Francisco. This ferry has a much more limited schedule than the others listed above.

The Alcatraz Ferry runs in a little bit of a different manner than the other San Francisco Ferries mentioned above. This ferry is only for passengers that have purchase a ticket to visit Alcatraz.
The tickets for this ferry are included in the overall Alcatraz Prison Tours ticket that you can purchase either online or directly at the ticket booth. You also purchase the ticket for a specific day and time and you cannot use the ticket at a different time.
The ferry service for the Vallejo Ferry and the Oakland & Alameda Ferry all run in and out of the Ferry Building in San Francisco. The San Francisco ferry service for these three destinations is primarily centered on people commuting back and forth between San Francisco. There are also a couple of ferries each day that swing by Pier 41 to pick up passengers in route to these three locations.
Both of these services are offered by the Blue and Gold Ferry Fleet Company. The Oakland and Alameda Ferry is one ferry that services both locations.
These two ferries also have an additional service for some of the San Francisco Giants game. This special ferry service picks up and drops off right at AT&T Park. This is a great alternative to driving before or after the game from these three locations.
These are the main San Francisco ferries that service the bay area. If you have the opportunity, I’d highly recommend taking a San Francisco ferry ride at least once while you are here. It’s a great experience and fun way to see the views around the bay.
